Tomorrow’s India: Mobile Computing to go GLOCAL

India is a perfect example of unity in diversity. One of the prominent reasons why India could successfully celebrate 60+ years of the strong democratic republic was its stand on the diversity subject. Right from the time of independence, Indians are officially allowed to maintain their diversity with different language. This much-known fact has been utilized by various advertisers and multinationals that use local language for greater communicability and mass reach.

If local languages are not used, the undersized growth will not only hamper the deliverance to the society but also deny opportunities to the major section that relies on the local languages for its communication. Similarly, unless mobile computing is accessible in the local languages, the growth will be minimal despite the vast opportunities for its spread.

Local Mobile Computing

Mobile devices are excellent at connecting users to information. This is why a fully optimized mobile-interface is a matter of importance for creating a great mobile experience. Understanding this need of the hour, many global mobile giants are getting ready to launch User Interface in different languages spoken in different provinces of India.

In the age of localization, where even the Operating Systems can be downloaded in several Indian languages, the huge consumption of content in local languages is one more positive sign for the growth of local language mobile computing in India. Language is the key criterion for effective communication. But when the communication medium is the Web or the input device is your cell phone, the same language needs technology aid to see greater usage. And that’s where these players need to work hard.

Efforts at making scripts and software for Indian languages earlier have been taken up by the government and non-profit groups, but much grounds are needed to be covered by these technology giants. Providing Smartphone and Tablet users with regional language interface would facilitate mostly browsed Matrimonial, Real Estate, Stock Market, Travel, News and Social Media applications with a vernacular. Increasing the educational opportunities and also sustaining the language and culture of regional masses of India, this is how; these players would not only serve a large chunk of the population, which is more comfortable with local language over the standard language but also bridge the gap by offering value-added services to its customer’s on-the-go.
