Diwali Makeover in Bright and Colorful Ways
Our most favorite festival, Deepawali or Diwali is just around the corner. If you have yet not begun with the spring cleaning of the house, you better gear up now. Even though you may be on low budget or may not have enough time, the makeover must happen because this is the time of the year when friends and family come over to our humble homes and we get a chance to flaunt our abodes too.
Renovation is an expensive idea and logically it cannot be done every year. However, it doesn’t cost much to offset the dull, boring look of the house with some creative and quick solutions. I am sure the children will also enjoy sprucing up the house in their little and creative ways. Let us make our home special this Diwali.
Theme it with a bright color schemes
Whitewashing and painting the house is a ritual that has been happening in our houses for years. But if it sounds tedious and scary to you, brush the walls off dust and dirt and then go for lovely wallpapers. Happy colors and lovely themes can be chosen for different sections of the house. Using multi-colored dupattas and colorful sarees to cover the dining tables and other furniture is also a great idea to bring newness in the house.
Light up the house
The festival of lights deserves a perfect lighting in the house. In the garden or outside the house, you may fix up the disco bulbs but significance of Diwali is captured when diyas are lit in every corner of the house. Bowls of water with floating candles make a nice decorative item in the dull corners of the house. Candles are my favorite too. Lavish platters and Pooja thali must be decorated with candles and diyas. They lend a cheer to the space and in no time bring that much needed brightness.
Style it with traditional elements
Give a twist to the decorations with the traditional elements. It is the time of the year when metal must shine through the house. The brass thalis, idols of deities in gold, silver lamps, delicate table wares, wooden trays, champagne flutes and wine glasses must be pulled out of the cupboard and neatly placed at prominent places. An elegant food arrangement is a winning idea for this festive season.
Quirky, funky and vibrant
Children must be engaged in the cleaning of their room, bookshelves, bed study table. Change the collage, the paintings, the drapes and curtains of the living room. The nooks and crannies may be accessorized by hanging marigold garlands and bright little lanterns at varying heights. Throw cushions and upholstery can be changed in hue colors. Big, bold design motifs, prints, embroidery work perfect for the festivals. It’s easy to make the rooms funky and vibrant by presenting the old wine in the new bottle. Bring out more photos of the family and put them in new frames.
Go Green in Vogue!
Non-toxic colors, dried flowers, leaves, rice, flour, turmeric should be used for Rangoli making. Flowers smell awesome and they make the house look gorgeous. Never miss doing the fresh flowers arrangement in colorful vases. Recycled paper can also be used to make artificial flowers or beautiful cut-outs. How about painting some old bottles and earthen lamps and using them as accessories around the corners of the house.
